Oldcastle Glass® introduces online tool, GlasSelect®

Santa Monica, CA. – June 27, 2002 – Oldcastle Glass® – North America’s largest independent supplier of architectural glass products and services‹announces the introduction of GlasSelect™, an online tool developed to expedite and enhance glass design and specification by architects and specifiers. Created specifically to address the needs of designers, GlasSelect™ offers architects and specifiers the opportunity to satisfy both glass aesthetic and performance targets and retrieve a guide specification that can be printed or e-mailed instantly.

“With the proliferation of glass products that offer advanced, energy efficient technologies, there are lots of choices and they’re always changing,” said Ted Hathaway, Chief Executive Officer of Oldcastle Glass. “Our goal was to quickly develop a web-based product to help architects reduce the time involved in finalizing their glass specifications.”

Available on the Oldcastle Glass website (www.oldcastleglass.com), GlasSelect™ provides both a calculator and visual representations to assist architects and specifiers. GlasSelect™ allows the user to choose color choices, product preferences (monolithic, laminated or insulating) and glass types (low-e, standard tint, high performance tint and reflective).

Once an architect or specifier has answered the program’s questions and entered their data, GlasSelect™ will generate a product configuration and customized guide specifications. These specs can easily be printed and/or e-mailed to oneself on location and third parties. Currently, GlasSelect™ has the ability to calculate the combined performance characteristics for nearly 1,000 different glass products.

GlasSelect™ is designed to work in tandem with the additional information areas on the Oldcastle Glass website. Upon generating the GlasSelect™ product specifications, an architect/specifier can peruse www.oldcastleglass.com for more detailed descriptions of the recommended glass products, view other commercial projects where similar glass products were used or call a member of ART (Architectural Resource Team) at 1-866-Oldcastle.

“While we are extremely confident that GlasSelect™ will become an important part of an architect’s toolbox, we realize that it will never replace the one-on-one relationships established by our local architectural specialists,” said Hathaway, “nor should it. With 40 Oldcastle Glass locations in the U.S. and Canada, we encourage our customers to visit us.” For additional information or to find your nearest Oldcastle Glass location, call toll-free 1-866-Oldcastle.

Oldcastle Glass is proud of its reputation for customer service and its innovative glass products specified on such high-profile projects as the LAX Gateway, the Anaheim Convention Center, the Caesar’s Palace Spa Tower, and The Getty Center Entrance Pavilion. Utilizing Oldcastle Glass’ exclusive Stackwall™ the company also completed the largest suspended glass wall in the U.S. for the Hawaii Convention Center.

Oldcastle Glass is a U.S. subsidiary of CRH plc, a leading international building materials group.
