Don Friese,
Chairman and Chief Executive
C.R. Laurence Co., Inc.
We’re proud to now be part of the Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope® (OBE) family and are looking forward to getting to know and work with the people throughout this great organization. We’ve had a great relationship with OBE for many years and it’s exciting to think of what we can do together to continue to provide opportunities and grow the glazing industry. I’ve personally known and admired Ted Hathaway for many years and I believe there is great chemistry from top to bottom in our newly combined organization.

CRL’s History

Although C.R. Laurence Co. (CRL) can trace its history back into the 1920’s, the company as we know it really started in the early 1960’s. In 1961, there was one location in Los Angeles with six employees and annual revenues of just $250,000. That is also the year when Don Friese received an honorable discharge from the US Army and came to work for CRL.

In 1963, the company was purchased by Bernie Harris. Over the next 34 years, Bernie and Don worked as partners in growing CRL to be the leading supplier to the glazing industry. Early on, Bernie recognized Don’s talents and made him a partner in the business. Bernie retired in 1997 and Don continued to lead CRL as CEO, Chairman and sole owner.
