Eastern Washington University | Interdisciplinary Science Center

The Eastern Washington University Interdisciplinary Science Center is the social hub and heart of the school’s research complex in Cheney, Washington. The four-level building was designed by LMN Architects to connect to the existing Science Building by two enclosed pedestrian bridges, forming a single integrated facility between the two structures. An atrium and cascading glass walls mark major entries and social spaces while providing vast views over the campus landscape.

Challenge:

The project was stalled by the complexity of the geometric structural addition, which required sophisticated modeling.

Solutions:

The Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope® (OBE) team worked closely with the architect and project team to ensure the addition was accurately modeled with BIM technology. Through its comprehensive design-assist services, OBE’s experts provided:

      • 3D site scanning integrated into Revit building models
      • Data analysis
      • Revit modeling
      • CAD drawing
      • Fabrication

“Once the data was confirmed, the project moved seamlessly,” says Ben West, Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope Business Development Technical Services Manager. “The team located anchor  points and added custom anchors to support a combination of curtain wall systems and integrated doors installed by C&S Glass, delivering a light-filled atrium that is the defining feature of the facility’s addition.”

The customized atrium and curtain wall was fabricated by Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope using:

Technical Tools from Trusted Partners
