Project Details

The architect’s vision for the three-story, 71,000 square-foot John J. Bowen Center was an academic hub that included multidirectional visual vistas to promote campuswide interest and enhance classroom learning.

The design integrated high-performance architectural windows and curtain wall that provided natural light into each of the laboratories and classrooms. “We considered project budget limits while achieving LEED® Gold Certification and local utility company advance building energy conservation requirements requested by the university.” Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope®
(OBE) Zero Sightline-HT windows and RelianceTM-TC Type II Curtain Wall allowed the design team to meet the design, performance and energy requirements. As home to the School of Engineering and Design and the College of Arts and Sciences, the John J. Bowen center’s innovative design was conceived to motivate and prepare students for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) careers.

We had an exceptionally close collaboration with OBE, who spent countless hours creating several full-scale building mock-ups.

In addition to the high-performance Zero Sightline-HT windows and RelianceTM-TC Type II Curtain Wall, Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope® (OBE) helped us with engineering, shop drawings, submittals, and anything we needed to keep the project on schedule.

OBE combines engineering expertise with customer service that is always friendly and timely. The John J. Bowen Center for Science and Innovation at Johnson & Wales University, included several architectural features that were critical to the final design. “We worked as a team and developed sound product and installation solutions that met the vision of the architect.”

Every project has its own unique challenges. OBE’s quality, accuracy, dependability, responsiveness, and team-centric commitment made it easier to meet those challenges and satisfy the needs of all stakeholders.

We trust OBE and value our relationship with them. We can call them about any challenge and they’re always ready to help.

Project Details

We supported the architect’s bold vision for this building and collaborated closely with the glazier to meet the challenges presented by that vision. Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope® (OBE) Zero Sightline-HT windows were installed in our RelianceTM-TC Type II Curtain Wall to meet the high thermal requirements of the project. OBE provided ongoing engineering support to the glazier from the initial shop drawing through final installation.

The Zero Sightline-HT windows allowed the design team to create transparent exterior wall assemblies that provided sightlines between the existing downtown campus facilities and the new center.

Within this 21st century learning environment are classrooms, laboratories, maker’s space, design studios, and a gallery where students can display their projects. This Center for Science and Innovation is open to all students looking to study, collaborate and incubate fresh ideas.

OBE is proud to have participated in the creation of this innovative center that will educate and inspire students.
